Development is not what Charlie opposes
Charlie Chandra does not oppose the development of PIK 2. A new urban area can improve connectivity and create business, employment, tourism, and investment opportunities for Tangerang and surrounding communities. The developer’s official website describes PIK 2 as an integrated city combining residential, commercial, and investment uses. That description should be understood as the developer’s account of the project’s vision.
Supporting development does not require every process within it to be accepted without scrutiny. Durable development depends on legal certainty, accurate land records, open communication, and a credible process for resolving disputes.
Progress should benefit local communities
The success of development should not be measured only by land area or investment value. It should also be assessed through employment, opportunities for local businesses, environmental quality, useful infrastructure, and protection of homes and livelihoods.
PIK 2 has published information about social and environmental programmes. These initiatives can be acknowledged as contributions reported by the developer, while their broader impact should continue to be evaluated through verifiable data and the experiences of affected communities.
Land rights and investment reinforce one another
Protecting land rights is not opposed to investment. Certainty about ownership, boundaries, transfer history, and dispute resolution reduces risk for residents, developers, lenders, and government. Respect for certificates, court decisions, and lawful administrative processes is therefore a foundation for development rather than an obstacle.
For land procurement in the public interest, Law No. 2 of 2012 emphasises balance between development and community interests and fair and proper compensation. Not every private land transaction automatically falls under that regime; the legal basis and facts of each acquisition must be assessed individually.
The position in summary
Charlie’s position is straightforward: PIK 2 development deserves support when it improves welfare, respects lawful rights, follows transparent processes, and resolves disagreements through legal channels. Development should not place residents in choices produced by pressure or unequal information.
